Decking out before the fight

Gear and buffs you should use before going in to a lynel fight.

Now not everyone is going to have savage Lynel Weapons and bows or fully decked out barbarian armor... so a few good combinations of things you should equip before going in.
The Most Efficient way in my opinion is to wear the full barbarian equipment set with Def or speed food buffs. The reason for this is the fact that the harder you hit, the faster the lynel will die. if you are good at dodging then i recommend the speed food buff or no second buff at all. the Def food buff is great just in case you mess up with your bow shot or miss your flurry hit, these lynels hit HARD.

if you are just starting with killing lynels and expect to get hit a lot, a good armor combination is to wear the full Soldier Set, it is the highest Def armor i have seen in game (besided champion armor, but it is not a full set) it has 28 x3 def when you equip them all at the highest **** 4 star rating. you are going to want to bring plenty of [ [full recovery] + <3 ] foods, try to find "hearty Duran, Heart radish, Big Hearty Radish, Hearty Truffles, Big Hearty Truffles, Hearty Lizzards(mixed with monster parts to make elixer) and a few others. the big thing is ONLY COOK ONE AT A TIME! i cannot express this enough, rather than wasting 2 hearty Duran on a "hearty simmered fruit" that gives you full recovery and 5 temporary hearts, just use 1 and get 2 cooked meals that fully restore your health and add 4 temporary hearts. if you get hit, you will loose most of your life. spamming hearty meals may be the only option

if you are using the high def armor i would recommend using ATK boosted meals to get the job done faster. HOWEVER do not use ATk boosted meals while using the barbarian armor, the barbarian armor gives you 3 atk up 'points' the boosted meal, does NOT stack and give it more, you will simply waste your food. So i thought, huh... maybe i should use both attack and DEF boosted meals, Sadly, you cannot stack the 2 meals and have them work at the same time.

But wait... What if i need to fight a Lynel in the Snow??
ANS: You Dun Messed Up.
Seriously; fighting a Lynel in cold weather is HORRIBLE, i cant use my good armor sets because i am wearing cold resistant clothing!!! Or wait, you can wear your clothing...
When i go hunting Lynels every Blood Moon, i get to the snowy places sooner or later so to be honest i wear 2 pieces cold resistant armor and 1 piece barbarian armor, then i boost my ATK with mighty banana Recipe above, 1 piece barbarian and 2 boosts from food give me 3 'points' in ATK. I fight them like this but it is hard to maneuver on the snowy ground and my armor is very low, one hit usually means death.
a better method is wearing the full barbarian set with food that boosts cold. But sometimes you just don't want to waste food.
Next up Weapon Choice
As i said before i prefer One-handed and Shield, this proves well with fast mobility and a speedy block if you make a mistake.
Spears are a good choice as well, especially since they can do so many fast hits outside of a flurry, downside is it is hard to block so you need to run around.
Two-Handed Weapons such as clay-mores, and mauls. I do not recommend these weapons for personal reasons, they are slow and you get stuck in a swinging animation, leaves you open for an enemy attack. However they can be quite useful. if you have a high DMG two-handed weapon with Critical Hit, bonus on it... you have struck gold. when you do a flurry you can swap out your weapon to that one and hit a home run.
Just give it some time and fighting lynels becomes a peice of cake.

To prove that is is possible, i wanted to have some fun and decided to take a Silver Lynel on with no armor or buffs but the Lynel mask, and a Maul.

to try and show off to you guys i wanted to prove that i wouldn't get hit a singly time and wouldn't loose any hearts, it was going all fine and dandy, up til he had a sliver of health left, i got cocky and missed an essential shot to the head when he was charging up his breath attack. i got burned for 6 hearts T^T P.S. You do not know how hard it is to take Screen Shots during a boss fight and trying not to loose a single heart.
